I need a new rear wheel. Not looking to break the bank.

Looking at the Shimano R500 for £70 or mavic Aksium for £107

I'm a heavy rider so weight is not an issue but strength is.

I would welcome your thoughts.

What do you call heavy?

The Aksium has a weight limit of 15 stones I think as for the R500 I've heard that is an strong wheel but no idea the limit is.

20 st but weight coming off fairly steadily.

I'm riding 80+ miles a week. The DT wheels that came on my Roubaix have been good and stayed true for 2,000 miles but the bearings and the rear hub has failed. I think I'll go with the R500s and look for a better set when I'm 15 st.

I'm training for the London 100 so they will be well ridden over the next 3 months.

I'm 100kg and hop a few speed bumps on R500s every day. 16 months on still true. Rock solid wheel

For the money, that seems like a sensible choice.

I'd just add a little more grease to the hubs as soon as you can.
