New rear cassette

I need to replace my rear cassette and chain this is what's currently on my bike 8 speed sram pg850 12-26T with a compact 50/34 upfront
Question is how much can i increase the ration by to make it slightly easier up hills i.e 11-28,11-30 or 11-32 and would i have to replace the RD as well?

depends on which RD you have and if it is a long reach one or a short reach one.

Edit: but you should be able to squeeze an 11-28 onto the existing one. I did with a short reach RD-2300 derailleur on my old Triban 3

28 should be ok, 30, maybe but depends on many things, 32, probably not, but never say never.

That's what I have Stevey, and it gets me up pretty much most hills around here so should be fine.
