I replaced the jockey wheels on my Campag Veloce 10sp rear mech and immediately noticed a noise. The teeth on the jockey wheels are new, squarer and not meshing cleanly with the chain. They are genuine campag spares, 10sp so presumably the correct size. The teeth on the old wheels are significantly (and understandably, 20,000km) smaller, mainly due to wear I suppose.

I'm presuming the new wheels will wear in just the same. Or is that a false presumption? Will it damage the chain? Should I switch back to the old wheels? Answers on a postcard etc....

When did you last replace the chain? It could be that the chain has stretched so links no longer match the new teeth?

I presume you have the upper at the top etc?

Personally I can't do with the noise from Campag JW's and use Tacx ceramic ones which are a lot quieter.

A quick bit of research shows that the bushing (ie the middle bit) is wider on the Record JW's than the other groups - you should have RD-RE700 which is 8.4mm- although the teeth are exactly the same which wouldn't account for the problems you have.

Ah..... didn't know there was a difference! I'll check and swap them round if necessary.... or just swap them anyway to see what happens! They are RD-RE700 8.4mm though..

Edit: yes, they're clearly marked 'upper' and 'lower' and by chance I have them the right way around. Obviously, I noticed that subconsciously ;) Also, by chance, I have the lower one in the right way too as it has a direction arrow!

The chain's got maybe 500k on it so wear shouldn't be an issue - in fact, if anything, the chain needs to be strecthed to enable the teeth to mesh correctly!

Adjust the B screw ? To pull mech away from sprockets. Are the Jockeys sat directly below the sprockets when in gear - i.e. indexing may be slightly out. If catching sprockets, then adjust the b screw.
