if i buy a new freehub, do they normally come with [in my case] 2 lots of 9 bearings as well, or should i hold on to the old ones?

thanks

No, the 9 bearings you refer to are part of the main hub so you should hang on to them. I wouldnt bother buying a new freehub yet until you have rinsed your current one with WD40, i bet you can get another couple of thousand miles out of it.

if the 9 bearings don't have a smooth surface then you should replace them, normally about £4 at your LBS.

One thing worth remembering - it may be cheaper to buy a complete hub, and strip it for the Freehub. Buying a Deore rear hub worked out loads cheaper than a new freehub - just swapped over the freehub, and now have spare axel and bearings. The old hub was re-lubed and sits as a a spare.

I changed the freehub as it froze on a commute - was quick just to do the swap, then fix up the old one !
