New Forest Sunday?

It's a Bike Events charity ride in aid of Orchid, choice of routes 18, 28 or 48 mikes. I'll aim for the 48 hopefully. (Unless my back and knees give up as I've just finished laying a wood floor and the physical after effects are not pleasant ).

Anyoner else doing it?

amnesia

Free-wheeling into oblivion...
I was supposed to be doing it... my first decent distance ride, but on Thursday I tore a tendon in my shoulder and have been advised not to do anything energetic by my doctor.

Gutted  ;)

Looks like cracking weather too. Have fun guys.

completed the ride yesterday, weather was a little overcast, but it made for a nice riding temp'.
did the 50 miles at an average of 15.1 mph
this was on a mountain bike with off road tyres. does anyone have any kind of comparison as to how much quicker/easier that would be on a road bike??

If the MTB had no suspension then about 15% easier on a road bike. If it had suspension, then 20%.

ie, "a lot" is the answer!

wow, thats good to know!
i do have front suspension, so would i assume that that could translate to approx 18mph? i think i would be happy with that as a new rider.

I was there, but was doing the New Forest Half Ironman. Saw a few of you guys out and about.

Half ironman was a 56 mile ride, but we had done a 1.2 mile swim before and an off road half marathon after. I managed the bike part in 3 hours 25 minutes, so about 16.4mph but was leaving a 'bit in the tank' for the run.

Hope you had a good day, the weather was fantastic!

I clocked it at 46.5 miles not 50? Perhaps my computer is not that accurate. Still whatever distance, I did it in 3 hours dead, which considering I'd had a 3 week enforced lay off was, I thought, fairly moderate. Some parts were surprisingly hilly though (well for me anyway xx().

Saw the triathlete riders some of the way round and managed to stay with one for a while, although he had probably done about 50 miles by then!

Weather was great and the organisation was very good too. Although I hate cattle grids.

All in all a good day out.
