Well, bb, chain, cassette, gear cables all replaced, indexed up nicely so shifting like a dream and feels almost like new...

That is until I get out the saddle or put large amounts of power through the cranks then it skips.

Would this be the cause of it?

I don't want a new chainset if I can help it but it's annoying me a bit

if i'd have noticed sooner i would have gone hllowtech or something and upgraded/futureproofed it. as it is i spent about £25 on tools and £20 on a new bb so dont fancy getting a new crankset an BB cups if i can help it.

phonecall to the LBS is in order then, but at least the clunking/clicking/knocking has stopped now!

The outer ring looks more worn than the inner so if things are tight you may be able to get away with just replacing that one.

its had a new chain (70 miles at most) new cassette (50 ish miles) then cables, bb etc 25 miles ago and i hav indexed it (i could be out but its not trying to change on me or rub excessivly) so i have kindof ruled them out to be fair, maybee new jockey wheels may help it? i suppose i could have a pun at £4 for them
it is slipping in both rings so i may as well replace both at the same time if im going to do them.

Hard to say based on the 1st two images. On the image showing the inside of the chainring (third image), I'd say it looks worn, but not out of this world worn. However, for the sake of the cost of a chainring (and it doesn't look like a high end chainring either), it is worth swapping out if it protects your testicles!

I nearly had a bad accident a year ago by riding a bike with a worn chainring, shipped the chain at the top of a small rise when out of the saddle, dropped on to the top tube, narrowly missing my manhood, smashed a cleat off by tearing my foot from the pedal and ended up in the oncoming lane riding my bike like a bucking bronko before finally coming to a stop right in the middle of said oncoming lane with one smashed cleat and one worn away from skidding it along the ground, gashes in my calf from the chainring and testicle adjacent bruising! It wasn't worth it!

To be fair my chainring was very worn, it was coming toward the end of the winter and I had a new groupset ready to go on as soon as winter was over, so I tried to live with it as long as possible rather than spend money just for a few weeks.

However, if you are noticing skipping chain under load, all it takes is for the chain to skip under load (or come off altogether) at the wrong time and you will suddenly drop down as resistance on the crank disappears. You might keep it under control (like I did, just about), you might not...

with my XXL frame a manhood Vs Top tube is almost inevitable if i loose my cleats or it skips!! try explaining a testicle up by your lungs without most women cracking up and most men crossing legs and wincing!
