Having finally run my procrastination habit to its max the new frame is commissioned. This bike will be intended for social riding, night and day, and no plans for more than a seatpost mounted rack with rackpack re luggage, though frame will have rack/guard mounts. So far we have, or will have:-

ti frame for disc brakes with 135mm rear spacing, naturalish ti finish, with black decals
Windwood Muddy Cross disc forks in black
Hope 31.8mm seatpost clamp in red
Hope standard headset in red
Hope steel wheel skewers in red
Hope grip doctor bar plugs in red
Thomson Elite inline seatpost in black
Spesh Alias saddle in black/silvery grey
Avid BB7 road disc brakes
BMX style platform pedals, either all black of mainly black with a touch of red
Mudguards, mounts will be put on for the clip/slot on hybrid ones if/when they're needed
Stem and Bars

Still to be decided - chainset, cassette, shifters/brake levers, wheelset, bottle cages, deraillers, tyres, and lights. Suggestions to enhance/correct my current thoughts would be very welcome:-

chainset - MTB in black, 44/32/22, remove 32 ring, put 44 in middle, replace outer with black bashguard and use steel backed red alloy fronted chainring bolts. Can I get the chainring bolts to match the red that Hope uses? To aid/protect shifting via the 22/44 I'm thinking I need something to stop the chain dropping on the inside of the small ring, suggestions? I'm also prepared to drill the 44t ring and use some pop rivets to assist in the upshift climb over 22t, anyone done anything like that? If I go with this sort of chainset is it limited to 9 speed only? that's not a problem if it is but it does feed the other decisions.

deraillers - plan on a MTB 9 speed rear, maybe XTR Shadow? so that I can run with 9 or 10 speed STIs and larger rear cogs if necessary, but could run a road mech as plan is for a 12-27 cassette. Front derailler needs to be whatever I can get to work with the 22/44 super compact double setup. At the moment I'm thinking the big ring should be at 49mm and the inner about 44mm, so a double FD spaced out or a triple? will be clamp on so I expect to have to slide down the ST a bit with the clamp.

shifters/brake levers - I'm thinking of the Ultegra 9 speed and understand that the Shimano front shifting is superior to SRAM(yes I'm ignoring Campy). I believe the rear shifting will work fine with the 9 speed MTB RD as it's dumb and has no internal indexing. If need be I'll run the Ultegra as a brake only on the left and use a bar end shifter, mounted on a thumbie, for front shifting. I also plan on running a crosstop lever for the front brake only.

cassette and wheelset - I'm thinking black spokes/nipples, black rims(no brake track) and black hubs - so far I'm seeing the Mavic A317disc as a front runner for the rims, spokes/nipples to be sorted by wheelbuilder. Front hub I'm tempted by a Son Delux disc and rear I want something that's not noisy when it freewheels. I was looking at an XTR rear but not sure if that's just overkill? I'd love to hear recommendations re all these parts, I could also be convinced to go up to 10 speed, I like the look of the Ultegra 10 speed in black and that could also bring SRAM into the mix.

tyres - trying to decide between the Panaracer Ribmo and the Marathon Supreme, both in 700x32.

lights and bottle cages - assuming I go with a dynamo hub then I was thinking of a red front light - does anyone know how the reds used by Son for the Edelux and Supernova for the E3 Terraflux Pro compare to the red that Hope use? Bottle cages I'm trying to find something that's mainly black with some red, I quite like the sort of shapes you get with some of the resin designs, any ideas?

The colour matching stuff is one thing but I am struggling a bit with the 9 or 10 speed quandary and what works together, I think I'd like to go 10 speed. But can I get a 10 speed road cassette on a 135mm rear hub that's not boutique and noisy, such as Hope or Chris King? If I go 10 speed do I need a special 10 speed chainset or does 9 work fine with it?
