I'm normally flabbergasted by pointless overspends (the Washington Rolls Royce C2C spur is one that comes to mind), but this new bridge seems to leave things exactly as they were.

Cyclist at the current bridge have to leave the narrow pavement and join very road traffic on the narrow road.
The new bridge is exactly the same, very upleasant for both cyclists and pedestrians!

Assuming they were daft enough to be riding on the pavement in the first place (whether or not some idiot from the council has put up a blue sign permitting it)

One improvement that could be made at zero additional cost would be to place the cycle symbols in the middle of the traffic lanes rather than at the edges - and better still, simply to not repaint the white centre line.
