Alright folks, just finished fitting a new set of brake and gear cables and the brakes feel very different (spongy) was wondering if this is normal as it's the first time I've done it, is there a bedding in period?

I have taken all care to make sure no problems were made during fitment ie filling flat the ends of the newly cut cable housing before crimping and the brakes properly adjusted. Although the new cables are a different make, PBK own brand fitted to replace bike's original jagwire, could this be the culprit?

Your thoughts would be most appriciated :-)

Sounds like even though you've been careful there's something not bedded in properly - maybe cable outer that's not cut square or fitted into a stop properly. Brakes are spongy when the cable outer compresses as you apply the brake and cable movement is lost. Try applying the brake and see if you can see where the movement is lost on the cable run. I'd be surprised if your new outers are so poor quality that they feel spongy

make sure you have not mixed up the cable houseing

gear and brakes are different - gear cable housing is constructed of parallel cables, brake cable housing is made from spiral cable
