Well, i'm looking to buy a new bike, but don't have any idea where to start. I ride quite often on both roads and a the cycle track near to me, which is a mixture of gravel and tarmac. Because I ride on gravel quite a bit, I guess a road bike is out of the question really, but I want to be able to ride on roads with more ease than i'd be able to with a mountain bike. Is it possible to get a mountain bike and change to smaller tyres, like a road bike, or would they not fit? Also, I have quite a small budget of around £200 so if anyone can also mention any bikes around that sort of price, it would be greatly apprecitated.

Thanks in advance, Loggis.

Hi

Yes this is a common practice. There are plenty of thinner tyres with less "nobbly" tread that causes resistance on tarmac. I would suggest something like these.

Hope this helps.
