Hi,

I'm going to buy a new bike. I'm going back to the London office that I have never been to tomorrow and realised there's a shop nearby called condor cycles which I have heard of somewhere. Would this be a good place to get a new road bike, budget £1500, or is this shop more specialised? Don't want to stick my head in the lion's mouth so to speak as I'd probably leave the shop with a £3k bike and then have some explaining to do lol!

Thanks,

Matt

I don’t think they have much for £1500...the framesets aren’t far off that (...or more). They have lush stuff though, especially steel tourers.

There is another shop called London Bicycle Workshop around the corner which sells Genesis, and Whyte. They're more likely to have something in budget (with the caveat that bike stocks are super low right now).

So what sort of road bike do you want?

The London Bicycle Workshop is even nearer, I can visit both tomorrow, thanks! I only have a hybrid at the moment and want a road bike again that's worth more a few hundred quid this time. Something light enough to hang on the wall in our new garden outhouse being built this summer and good for bike rides around the countryside.

I was happy with my Boardman - you get a lot of bike for the money. Just make sure to have it looked over after you get it, Halfords quality control is variable. Personal experience, anecdotal evidence and l f b s experience.

So saying, it will need shop servicing - unless you have the tools and experience working with 'modern' spec bikes :-)

How can you go back to somewhere you have never been to?

Go to Condor just for the experience, even if you don’t end up buying. They are a legendary shop and have been there for yonks. Started by Monty Young in 1948, he passed away a couple of years ago but used to make all their wheels by hand and was renowned all over the smoke and beyond for his expertise.
I believe their steel frames come from Italy now. If you can stretch your budget a little you’ll be rewarded by a top class hand made bike and frame. They’ll fit the bike for you too. You’ll find it’ll hold it’s value well.
Boardmans are fine and good value by a Condor is something special.

A valid point. I joined a company a year ago but having working at home whilst it's been closed due to covid!
