I picked up a 2015 Cube SL Road Race a few weeks ago to fill a gap in my stable.
I used to put slicks on my MTB and use that for load lugging and touring, but since I converted iit to a 1x10 drivetrain it not much use on-road. as the 32/11 top gear is just too low.
My road bike on the other hand is great for zipping about on but I really don't to put a pannier rack/mudguards on it... not that there are any mounting points anyway.
My Alfine 8 commuter/town bike ticks a lot of the missing boxes, but 8 gears are a bit limited for longer distances.
With this new bike having a good spread of gears on a 105 drivetrain, chunky(ish) tyres, toughish CX wheelset, hydro discs, pannier and mudguard mountings, it ticks all the boxes for me but with a bit of work I felt I could make it bit better.
So it's now got drop bars, light duty CX tyres, new saddle etc and has transformed into a sort of gravel adventure bike.
Only had a short ride so far, and I need to re-bleed the back brake, and tweak the gears.
