I have been looking at buying a new bike for nearly two years now. I'm currently on a Triban 3. I very nearly purchased a Vitus from CRC last year through C2W but as I was only on a fixed term contract I held back. I've been looking at other stuff since then but haven't bought anything yet.

I've read that for frames you should work off strong, light and cheap for this bike I'm using looks, equipment and price. Equipment wise I want disc brakes and 105/Rival groupset. I had intended to go throught the C2W scheme but there is nothing that really floats my boat or has the equipment I want below £1,000 so I'll probably just buy something outright.

There is the Pinnacle Dolomite 5 which fits the bill gear wise but it's the same colour as my Triban so it's put me off it. Stupid reason but there you go. The Dolomite 6 has everything and it's in stealth black which I wanted for ages but recently I'm thinking it looks a tad boring.

The latest front runner is the planet x RTD-80. It has the gear, price is ok. It has SRAM on it which is a novelty for me as I've only had Shimano before and it's a carbon frame which again is a novelty. It would scratch those two itches in one bike. The only thing again is the look. It's ok but I don't love it.

I think I'm over the looks thing, it's ok salivating over three or four grand Canyons, but I'm never going to spend that sort of money.

I think the current plan is to just get the RTD-80. My Triban is too big and my commute has gotten a lot longer in the last few months and I'm really beginning to notice it so I want something new that fits. If something comes out in the next while that totally knocks me out for under £1,000 I'd still have the C2W scheme open to me then sell the RTD-80.

Anyone in a similar position or have any thoughts?

Get a cheaper canyon?

Ribble and Dolan have good value carbon bikes, also with shimano (although SRAM rocks)

Left field option, Genesis equilibrium disc in steel ftw

Just a note,
We just had our C2W scheme come though this week, and the amount of money is down to £500 from £1000 last year .

I don't use the scheme myself, but why would they reduce it by half?
Cash flow issues? Company has to pay out up front
