New bike review: Rose Pro multiroad SL2000

The bike was ordered on 24th September 2015 and arrived from Germany on 9th October, so the 2 week delivery estimate was very good indeed. The bike arrived in excellent condition in a strong cardboard box.

I had ordered a bike with the colour described as shiny black/grey-green. The bike I received would have to be described as shiny black with 6 green decal stickers and 1 grey decal sticker. There is no green or grey paintwork on the bike. This is not something that concerns me in anyway , and in my opinion the lime green decals contrast very well with the black paint and enhance the overall appearance. I could however, understand a young person/teenager being mildly disappointed in not receiving the exact colour that they had been expecting (-1 point).

On unpacking the box there were just 3 items to assemble. These was a pair of peddles, front wheel and carbon seat post. It seems that almost everything on the bike can be put together/dismantled using just 4 or 5 relatively small sized allen keys-so no need to carry extra weight in the form of spanners.

The frame is aluminium, with full carbon fork. Gears- Shimano 105.
A pair of quick release Aksium wheels are fitted as standard, with 700c x 25 continental tyres. The cassette comprises of 9 gears making this a 18 speed bike. I opted for a soft gel saddle instead of the standard one. Peddles are not included (which I think tends to be the norm on premium brand bikes), and I purchased a pair of extreme ATB pro C17 that I find very comfortable with a good firm non slip grip

I had defied gratification for just over 3 weeks before eventually taking the new toy out on Sat 31st for the maiden ride. (Well, you have to allow yourself time to lube-up the chain, gears and exposed cables etc with some EP90 while it stands in the passage at the foot of the stairs!). I’ve got to say, I was not disappointed. After riding around on old twenty quid mountain bikes for the last 15 years it was a real pleasure to ride this bike. I cannot compare it to other quality road bikes because I’ve never had one. I’m pleased with my choice.

Yesterday was the second outing, and I managed a continuous 27 miler without the need to stop-something unprecedented with me and cycling. (Realistically, I feel 20 miles is about my limit/comfort zone though) According to the wireless Velo computer I notched up a top speed of 31.8mph (going down a hill of course at some point) and an average pace of 13.5mph. The journey took me 2hrs 1min. I’ve got to say I was glad to see my front door!

Always nice to get a new bike, I hope it serves you well, I am just a little confused on one point...........you say the cassette is nine speed but the bike is a 22 speed? I you have 9 on the cassette and two chain wheels it is 18 speed, 3 chainwheels will make it 27 speed. Unless you just made a typo?
