Hi
I got a new bike recently, it has disc brakes and hub gear which I've never had on my old bikes before. I notice some strange behaviours I hope someone here would know if they are real problems or not.

When the brakes are fully applied, should there be slight movement between the disc and wheels? What I mean is, if I fully apply the brakes (and lock the disc) and rock the bike back and forth, there is a very slight movement. It appears the disc and the wheel are not fully locked together. This happens to both front and rear wheels. Is this normal for disc brakes? (the bike still brakes properly at speed)

The second thing is that when I pedal down from stationary, I can feel a slight drop/dent/click at 3 o'clock position. This drop/click would be gone once the pedal is in rotation. I am not sure if it's a feature of the hub gear. Does anyone know of this?

Does your bike have suspension forks?

No.

My bike is this one.

I removed the front wheel for a close inspection. It appears there is a very slight movement (< 1 degree) between disc axle and the wheel. This is the cause of the movement I felt when I rock the bike.

I still have no clue on why the 3 o'clock "click" is happening.

Thanks

Is it just that the rotor bolts are loose? there shouldn't be any play at all between the disc and wheel mounting.

Sorry, can't help with the other, I have no experience at all of hub gears but doubtless they'll be plenty of advice offered soon.

The best advice when it comes to problems with new bikes is always to return it to the shop from whence it came. Problem 2 sounds suspiciously like a loose crank, it will devour itself unless attended to quite immediately.

If it had Shimano Roller Brakes, then this behaviour would be expected, but not for disc brakes. I only mention this as there is often confusion between these two types of brakes, but the link you provide clearly shows disc brakes.

Thanks for everyone's advice. I will take it back to the shop this morning for a check up this morning.

Back from the shop, the technician checked the entire bike, re-adjusted the brakes and tighten all the nuts, bolts and cranks. These two issues still remain.

I guess these are expected quirks of this particular model. At the moment the bike still rides and brakes properly. I will keep an close eye if the symptom develops.
