New bike for the wife?

My Mrs loves cycling and having only started riding last year at the age of 57, can manage 20+ miles on her Decathlon Hoprider commuter (flat bar - sat very upright).

She now wants a second bike so she can ride when we are at home - and when we are at the caravan.

Given her limitation on travelling a few more miles is quite a bit to do with comfort, I thought a more touring based bike might be more viable si the weight is distributed between saddle and handlebars more evenly.

She will need a drop cross bar.

Any suggestions would be very helpful.
Budget 300 and will be looking at 2nd hand market.

Sounds like a fair swap to me.

I do hate it when people refer to their spouses as 'the wife'. Up there on a par with 'calm down, dear'.

Rant over, I don't think it is worth getting a bike for £300. Second hand is an option; however, it depends what is out there. Better to find something that looks okay and then ask for opinions on a specific bike.

Comfy armchair to one person & a plank to the next
^^^ that.

Plus don't put much weight on the handlebars. That way lies arm and shoulder pain. Split nearly all weight between feet and saddle... but a well fitting tourer would, just in different proportions. If comfort with the current bike is a problem, I'd be surprised if it's the weight distribution alone, though.
