Mrs FF is going to return to a bit of cycling this year. Her early 80s 10speed gas-pipe Dawes Londoner is not going to cut-it any more. So we've looked at some fancy road-bike confections and I felt she really didn't wants drops. Furthermore it needs to be good for a pootle along the river and fairly zippy-ish for longer days freewheeling trips and pootles to some country pub.. Wide gear-range is also beneficial.
And the budget won't stretch unfortunately to anything too pricey (well it could, but we really shouldn't).

I think it's better she gets back into cycling on something that's easy and comfortable, wide gear-ranged, comfortable and flexible. If she get's into-it then we can always upgrade to full roadie in the future.

So we've looked at the Boardman and I've got a medium coming-in to the local store next week for us to try for size (we know the small Fi is too small and the medium Gents is OK). In addition to ticking most of the boxes it's in Halfrauds sale at £100 off at £399 which seems a bargain.

Details:

Boardman Bikes : Hybrid Comp fi

So, apart from the usual Halfrauds caveats, any reason why the Boardman ladies Hybrid at £399 is not a good deal!

Cheers
FF.

That looks a fair bit of bike for the money, even if they don't know what brakes are on it, the description says "Avid BB5 hydraulic disc brake 160mm" when they're obviously mechanical.

The only 2 questions about suitability would be the gearing and fork, if I was looking for wide range as you suggest I'd be looking for a triple rather than the compact double even with the 32 on the back. Though of course you'd know better than me how low a gear was required. The fork - straight blade aluminium doesn't suggest comfort to me, so I'd want direct experience or or test ride.
