I went bike testing with my dad to harrogate on Wednesday and tested a Madone 5.2, a roubaix and a tarmac expert (all 2011). dad was certain the tarmac would be too hard so it was just for fun really but we were both surprised that the madone was the smoothest/comfiest for both of us. we got out of harrogate and spent around 45 mins on each bike to get a feel, its amazing how quickly they start to feel the same. Dads pretty keen on the madone but is going to try a TCR but has anyone got any other suggestions i could put to him, he's getting on at 59 and wants something a bit smoother that he can enjoy longet rides on.

cheers

To some extent it depends on the image he wants to project, but for really long rides I love my Thorn Audax Mark 3. Not the lightest bike in the world (but not as heavy as you would think) however, being steel, ride confort is a big winner.
