Hi guys just picked up a second hand btwin 520 for £200.
I wasnt really looking for a bike but thought it was a good price as its mint.

Now, me being me rushed into it and didnt test ride it!
Its a XL, im 511/6 foot, the frame measured 22"
it has a 110mm stem and sitting on it now im home i feel really stretched reaching the hoods, would this be the length of the stem?
Mayb i need to get a shorter one, 80/90mm?

That might be easier than getting longer arms.

Moving the saddle forward to shorten the reach is sooooo wrong.
Get the saddle in the right position and get the reach right with stem changes.
You’re assuming he has it in the right place already. I’m not

@gazza81 have you adjusted the saddle position to suit you rather than the previous owner?

However, looking at this, I’d suspect the frame is too big. 58cm top tube, 5’11 unless height is all in torso

It is a xl, depending what website i look at some say its ok some say i need a size smaller.
The guy told me it was a large and i didnt really check at the time.
It doesnt feel big sitting on it and i need to raise the seat quite far up.
Its just reaching to the hoods feels like they are really far away!

Im going to put the 90mm stem on from my pinnacle later if it fits and see how that feels.

Meaning, ive only sat on it as it is, set up for the previous owner.
I need to raise the seat so it suits my height, which is around hip height? Heal on pedal?

Well i had a play this morning before work, adjusted seat height and fore aft.
Feels better but the bike still feels long if that makes sence, the frame doesn't feel "big".
i think the shorter stem will really help so ill try that after work.

The gears are completely out of whack! My fault for not test riding!

Haven’t you got a tape measure? If you feel right on the Pinnacle you mention just transfer the measurements over and you’ll not be guessing what length stem.

Taking into account the differences in geometry, handlebar width and hand position :okay:

I converted a roadbike to flatbars and even with 3cm more stem the bike was still too small after the change (and it got sold to a smaller friend)

Worth a try but measure the diameter of both bars with a tape measure to check they're the same or the stem won't transfer
