After about a year of testing bikes and agonising over the decision I've finally chosen a new bike, actually relatively on the spur of the moment for me.

Having tried and liked a number of cross bikes and more upright audax style bikes I've plumped for a 2010 Trek Pilot 2.0 as it had £300 off in Evans.

I was worried about 25mm tyres but on my hour long test ride it proved okay. I'm aware that it's a bit of an old man's roadie, and I've had to get a 50cm version as I'm really short, but I really like the geomatary and the way it rides. It'll be my 'do everything' bike so it had to be versatile but fast.

For the price I'm happy to give it a go for a year and sell it on if I want something more aggressive or more off road capable.

Anybody else got one?

I don't have a Trek but from the spec it looks excellent. If you are riding mainly on the road it is an ideal machine. Enjoy!

I have a trek 1.2 wsd (2009) and love it. It's my first road bike (not counting the raleigh topaz i had when i was about ten) and i find it great. Light, comfortable....fab. I have a 53cm frame, and it's a perfect fit.

Really nice bike and a bargain at that price. You are lucky to get one nearly all the sizes are sold out on Evans site.

I have a Trek hybrid and its been a brilliant bike. Good Luck and Enjoy it.

Thanks, I got the last one Evans had, so a bit of a result. It's put my mighty Trek Valencia into semi-retirement, although the Valencia now has knobbly tyres on it for winter and filthy weather duties.

I can see why people don't like to take their new shiny bikes out in bad weather.

Yes I too have the Trek pilot and purchased from Evans in Nottingham for £538 (this was before they reduced their price in the sale. I got them to price match ). I upgraded the pedals to Shimano A520 and put some Crud Road Racer Mk2 mudguards on also BUT having got the bike mid December I still have not been out on it yet. It is sitting in the garage all locked up - initially it was the snow and ice that kept me from getting out and then a family bereavement just before christmas has meant my time at weekends has been limited so I am really hoping to get a ride out on the Trek this weekend providing the weather is not too bad. Don't mind the rain but not keen on the wind and as this is my first road bike I do want my first ride on it to be failry risk free.
I have not seen another Trek Pilot on the road yet though so presume they are not that popular in the road cycling fraternity.

I've 'commuterised' mine with a rack and guards and already done 30 miles worth of commuting on it. Still has the original pedals on as I've got to transfer over some SPDs this weekend. Initial impressions are very good. The gear shifts are a bit dodgy and Evans Waterloo cut were pretty un-helpful when I took it in there, but it's getting better so possibly just wearing in type issues. Other than that it's a great ride, fast, responsive, agile. I'm already seeing a bit of improvement in average pace so it's deffo a good decision.

Trek seems to have stopped making it as I suppose it doesn't really fit into any big market. It's not as racey as a Spec Secteur and I suppose this type of bike is being superseded by cross bikes which are really just upright roadsters like the Pilot.

Either way, I'm happy with it for £550. If I ride it every day for about 4 months it's paid for itself in train fares.
