Newish Specialized Tricross, only done about 400 miles on it. In the last week I've found it initially hard and now impossible to shift back to the largest chainring. I use the largest ring almost all of the time, only using the middle one for going up a steep hill on my way to work. Shifting back to the the largest ring just doesn't happen when I use the left gear changer.

I'm planning to attend an Evans bike workshop in the next couple of weeks but wondered whether there's something simple I can do to correct it in the meantime.

Thanks

Sounds as though the cable has stretched. If the shifter has a barrel adjuster try giving it a quarter turn at a time and see if the resolved the problem. failing that adjust the tension from the front mech. Be ready to hold the end of the cable with pliers as it will loose tension pretty quickly. You will see where it was previously pulled to by the flattening of the cable. Pull it passed that point by a few mill and try to shift the highest ring. Repeat as necessary.
