Hi all,

Where I live we gets lots of winter gritting and salt which eats my derailleur gears so I thought I might get a new Hybrid with the Alfine 11 gears. I have boiled down my choice to two very similar bikes but just cannot make my mind up – so I hope someone out there might be able to help? Unfortunately I cannot really test ride either.

The Charge Mixer 2011 http://www.evanscycles.com/products/charge/mixer-2011-hybrid-bike-ec025577)

The On One Pompetamine Alfine 11 Speed (http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/CBOOPOMPALF11PRO/on-one-pompetamine-alfine-11-speed).

Thanks

I have Mixer 8 and very pleased with it. I think the Mixer 11 will be very nice too.

But I think the On One is better pound for pound - you get better brakes and handbuilt wheels and Dynamo front hub.

You can also fit wider tyres. Not that I wanted to, but I couldn't get anything wider than 32mm slicks with mudguards.

The only thing you don't get is the mudguards which you can pick up for £30 or thereabouts

I was very interested in the Pompetamine, until I came across the Dawes Nomad. It's a fair amount more expensive thank the Pompetamine, however it's also a fair amount cheaper than a Rohloff equip tourer. I will be interested to hear what you choose if you do decide to go for one of these (or indeed, if anybody gets one). These hubs are a bit of an unknown quantity at the moment, so I am keen to hear personal experiences on them.

Hi
We use both the Alfine 8 and 11 on our Ingegnere Due city bikes if anyone is interested in a Italian handmade (Columbus tubing) classic city bike. The Alfine 11 is very reliable and would certainly recommend.
