I cycled through Alderly Edge 'tother week after a 40 miler around Cheshire. Once through the village I dropped onto the A34 heading towards Kingsway/Manchester. It's a decent stretch of road if you get into the gutter and the roundabouts aren't too bad to get around. However, once at the lights at the Cheadle/Northernden turn offs I decided to go straight on towards Kingsway. Fu**in' Hell! I got myself into a right pickle, as I found it hard to negotiate into the correct lane. Traffic was mad as always around here, and there's two motorway slip roads here too! That's what made the job harder. Is there another way to negotiate this stretch of road, ie via Cheadle or Northernden, to rejoin Kingsway further on or have I missed a cycle lane somewhere? It took me a while to clean the inside of my leggings after that near miss!

It's godawful, isn't it?

My suggestion would be to head for Cheadle at the Cheadle Royal roundabout (following Wilmslow Road/Schools Hill). At the bottom of the hill, go left (A5149 Wilmslow Road) and follow to the end (traffic lights, at which you go right, on to High Street (A560)).

At the next set of lights, go left (B5095, Manchester Road) and you'll end up in East Disdbury, next to the cinema complex at Parr's Wood.

Thanks JTM. I thought the same yesterday when I was in Cheadle, I can't find an easier route, it's bad enough in the car!
