Hey, Im thinking about doing a Sponsered cycle from Newcastle to Cambridge for Asthma UK but before i go Ahead and commit to this challenging task i Need a few things awnsered...

Routes what roads bicycles cant go on? such as dual carrigeways,motorways.. etc
Is it possible to rent or even get a half decent road bike sponsered to you?
Also for training is a bike you find in a gym suitible until i find a road bike?
and a good challenge time. example 6-7 days or is that quite lazy..

hope for replys and thank you all for your time x

Right:
1) Bikes can go on any roads except motorways, with a few special exceptions. However there a some A roads that I would avoid. Anything that is 1 or two digits long and is dual carriageway for long lengths is to be avoided, e.g. A14 to Cambridge, A34 to Southampton.
2) Very tricky and a bad idea. You will need to get used to the bike and comfortable, which means having it for some time. If budget is tight, your best option is second hand or freegle (google it).
3) Gym is better than nothing, but not a decent substitute. Hills, wind, other road traffic, all make getting out on the road important.
4) 50 miles a day is bottom end, 100 is really working hard for it. Anything between the two is respectable.

Right yeah, I see your point about getting a feel for the bike, Budget it very tight lol.. might buy a bike then return it after lol
and the whole 50/ 100 hundred miles well I looked closly and the first day will be around 50 but the next is near one hundred, Thirsk to Lincoln!
I'll work hard like I've said to myself i'll do it!

thank you for a reply

join your local cycle club.
sombody there should have a half decent bike to lend you.
you may also find someone prepaired to ride with you.

on the fundraising front, i have found it much more lucrative to get many people doing a short ride then doing a big one solo!

Very true!! (Unless your name is John Bishop) Though not as rewarding for the participant.

You might like to contact every LBS in you locality with a nice letter and follow up visit explaining your endevour. They might provide you with a bike in return for you wearing their logo'd jersey and publicity in the local rag, as been known so worth a try.
