Despite saying on an earlier thread that I have found no problem with the brakes on a Trek 1.2, today I have found that I need to replace the pads and retract my earlier statement.:blush::smile:

Whilst cycling in unknown territory, I came across a 25% gradient downhill, nothing new to me in my part of the woods, staying on the side of caution I started to decend slowly, constantly braking as speed increased and began to realise that the power of the Earth sucking (no such thing as gravity, the Earth sucks) was far more powerfull than my application of brakes. As I got faster I discovered a twist in this uncharted hill or should I say two twists, an S bend all within about 30 yds xx(:ohmy:, the first a left I took wide as I could see no cars coming, but the second to the right was terifying as I was still accelerating towards the earths core (felt like it), almost as fast as the proton accelerator, all I could see was a hawthorn hedge in front of me, on both sides of the road and could not see round the corner and to stay on my side of the road ment I was doomed.

At the last moment, I decided I wanted to remain a cyclist and did not want to become an ornithologist studying birds in hedgrows so I cut the corner off on the wrong side of the road, blind, and hoped I may not become a car spotter specialising in bonnets. Anyway I survived as you can see , so please is there anyone out there who can recomend a decent set of pads or improve my entire braking system.

Just checked my Edge 305 download and see that I took the first bend which was not that tight at 25mph and the second which was tighter than 90 degrees at 18mph, so I must have slowed slightly. Suppose I have to give some praise for the Trek 1.2's stability which it is renowned for, for keeping me on the road and alive. Thank you Trek, but your brakes are still crap.

Kool stop salmons at about £7 a pair.

Good enough to stop me from 40mph in fairly short order when my crappy Decathlon bottle cage disintegrated yesterday. The bottle hit the ground, but the metal cage bit could have gone through the spokes! A following car was nice enough to make sure I didn't try and refit it by crushing it for me.

Salmons are great in the wet too, but wear out pretty quickly.

Yikes - I was the one asking about the Trek 1.2 Brakes !!

I've now got the bike and the brakes are every bit as crap as i expected.

My Trek MTB brakes lock the wheels as soon as a decent amount of pressure is applied....the 1.2 barely slows the bike even when nailed on ;)

Ok they may bed in but i'm not sure Iwanna hang about and thak the chance !

Might check these salmons out.

Mike.
