Hello, so my winter bike is at Halfords for repair. The bottom bracket is knackered - a lot of movement in the cranks - I need to replace the cartridge. They called me this afternoon to say they tried really hard but could not remove the old rusty bottom bracket! They are soaking it in releasant (?) tonight and will try again in the morning however I need a back up plan if they say it is stuck.
I am not really sure I want Halfords to start hacking at the old BB in case they damage the frame and ruin the bike. But the bike is unusable without a replacement BB..... What would you guys recommend??
The bike is a Carrera Crossfire 2 and is five years old. This is the second time (i think) I need to replace the bottom bracket. The bike has been used in all weathers with minimum maintenance (perhaps 6monthly clean&oil, lube more often), also was left outside for 2-3months last year (no garage/shed!).
Any advice greatly appreciated! Thanks!
