...on the E bank of the river, there is a road running N, between the railway and the river, which has 2 short passges of bridleway. Does anyone know about the condition? Fit for a roadbike?

It’s been a while since I’ve been there but I think not. @figbat knows it better maybe he’ll be along presently.

I’d say a guarded ‘yes’. It’s unpaved in sections but generally fairly smooth. There’s a section parallel to the rail line that is across a small common, with a well-worn path. Might get muddy if it’s been wet. I rode that way a few times this summer but on a MTB (not that I needed a MTB for that bit, but for other part of the ride I was on).
