I used to have a Whyte Suffolk road bike that could take huge tyres, had disc brakes, mudguards and a pannier rack. It was used for commutes but I could go anywhere on it.
I now have a GT Traffic 1.0 hybrid with disc brakes, mudguards and will at some point have a pannier rack (when I find one to fit).
I'm about to get a road bike on C2W and was thinking of something similar to the Whyte - road style but freedom to beef it up for commuting etc.
However, I'll be keeping the GT Traffic. Which got me to thinking - should I keep that for commuting and get a sportier road bike, one of the 8kg jobs with 25c tyres that I can clean when it's not even dirty?
Thing is, my commute is 15-20 miles each way (I don't do it regularly but want to do it more) and I thought a road bike would be better for those distances. But I would need to get something that could double as a commuter and then I'd in essence have have two very similar bikes.
This N+1 business is complicated.
