It's been a couple of years now since I bought my last bike, a Specialized Creo. Fantastic bike, much nicer to ride than my daily Boardman commuter ebike, but I'm now getting the itch again for another shiny 2 wheel companion.

Not really sure what I want, 100% don't need another eBike, so this would be a pure mid-life crisis buy. The budget is not that important, after all a fancy car or different wife during your 40s will have far worse financial ramifications  .

Would anyone advocate one of these over the others......

The front runner is the Scott Addict eRide, it's a good 2kg lighter than the Creo, a 'proper' road bike versus gravel, and means I wouldn't feel bad putting a pannier and racks on the Creo to use it for commuting. However the reality it'll get ridden once in a blue moon.

The Canyon Roadlite:ONfly CF 9 LTD is up there too. It's got the Fazua drive train that I love, a massive battery, and its a hybrid so essentially something perfect for my commute to work (2-3 times a week).

The final outside choice would be a Canyon Grizl:ON CF9. I've taken my Creo on a few gravel rides and really enjoyed it, but cannot help feel some front suspension would be good. I've also never owned an eBike with a really beefy motor so not sure how I would get on with it? Might get used even less than the Addict!!

You don't need suspension on a gravel bike. Did 350km on a race geometry CX bike in September (with camping gear).

You'd be better with an XC MTB if you need suspension. PS that Canyon is minging.

My midlife crisis bike was a Kawasaki Ninja… got me busted in the first week, so I’m likely a bad source of advice. However, when I retired I went out and bought a Dutch bike for those slow and relaxing ride days. It gets regularly used for the commute to my part time job or for just a ride to relax and think on important stuff. It’s a nice change from the road bikes, slows you down a bit.

or you could go get a Miata and put a pipe on it.

I know my limits of self control. The only 2 wheeled proper motor powered vehicle was a 50cc rental scooter I took out of holiday, when I handed it back the rental shop owner told me I over took him around a corner earlier in the day and he was 100% sure I would be calling him to say I had crashed it!!!

I've also fallen off the pedal bikes enough to know I cannot be trusted with anything other than pedal bike, wounds take much longer to heal these days compared to younger too. Slowing down for corners isn't something I do well .

Been looking up details on the bikes, pretty sure I'll go with the Scott. Just over 10kg, more torque than the Creo I have now, and with better wheels set.

The Dolan looks interesting but the Scott if I can get it onsale later this year looks pretty well priced compared to the analogue version, infact with the same finishing kit it's cheaper!!

If I can find it for £5kish later this year it'll be a 'good' buy I recon.....as much as a £5k pedal bike can be  .

For proper mid life crisis n+1 I’d get a full suspension e-bike like the above
You’re already covered on the road with the Creo, I don’t think a slightly lighter road e-bike offers you much different, the motor covers that gap - you would have a lot more fun off road on a full sus away from that all that horrible traffic

Knowing what an idiot I am with horsepower in hand I’ve always limited the size of my bikes. Any time I’ve been loaned something with real power something truly stupid has happened, the ultimate time involved several Ontario Provincial Police cruisers trying to catch a 900 Supersport Honda which had been clocked at 185 in an 80 zone. Somehow I’ve survived.
