So I may be making myself sound like a royal plonker and it's probably totally obvious but I have tried fishing around to try work it out but wasn't sure what the little peg bit on the seat stay near to the drop outs on the derailleur side of the frame...
I've added a photo of one I've seen because I've forgotten to take a snap of my bike to demonstrate!

Thanks in advance for the help

It's for hanging the chain on when you remove the back wheel it's called a thingamijig

I figured it might be, Just wasn't sure as it's a little way from the chain. next time the back wheel comes off I must try this! :P I know a bit of a geek! (poor bike needs a good clean up!) I keep getting grotty fingers every time I go to touch odd bits on the bike! Got to make sure my doobyfart works! ;)

Useful little addition but don't forget to drop the chain back onto the cassette before you ride off!

Yep, usually denotes a frame with a good pedigree

Seat stay chain hanger

Indeed. It was an optional extra when I had my 853 built up. I even remember to use it occasionally!

have you got that seat post out yet ??
I will be honest I've not really had the time to shift it yet.. did 46hours last week as the hospital I work at has decided to change their whole computer system to something called eHospital! and it's turned the place upside down!
I will at some point get a chance to pinch some dry ice and get on the post.. I'm still pondering just replacing the saddle with a slightly thinner one and letting it be until the time comes I can afford to strip it down for a full overhaul.
