Possibly 1940s from the rear mudguard eyes on the stays, rather than the dropouts. Very well-mitred inside the BB shell. Pinned inside for brazing (this eliminates a lot of builders). Incredibly light - 4lb 2oz for the bare frame in 22" but takes a 26.8mm post so it's probably not 531DB, and is too light anyway. A&P Kromo? The lugs are fairly fancy but the most distinctive feature is the addition of very long cosmetic spearpoints. These were separately brazed. The chainstays are double-sleeved at the BB shell. Frame number on the BB shell is 855.

The fork isn't original - Argos built it to match about 12 years ago, because it came with a generic chrome fork.

Any ideas?

Very nice, not a clue about who made it though.

Hi, very unusual treatment, a possible to check out would be Macleans, the top of the stay looks like it could be a Macleans, and if is there a letter near the three digits ( not necessarily inline ), it should be more obvious on the fork steerer, it would point to it being a Macleans. I had a 1939 Macleans that had extensions like that but it was vertically on the forks, just a thought. Thanks Terry

When I took the frame in for repainting years ago (it had been badly powdercoated). Argos scraped the powdercoat off one of the lugs and showed me the join between the real lug and the cosmetic spearpoint.
