No its not a new 'Carry On...' film. I started a thread named 'Etape Caledonia Sabotaged' on 18th May which had a fair numbers of posts. It now seems to have left the building. Mods?

I suspect the mods are nervous at details and comments about the incident turning to retribution against the alleged perpetrator. You can develop a good case in which CC is claimed to be liable for providing someone the details of the accused and acting (stupidly) with this detail.

No, I don't think you can. Forums are facilitators and are not responsible for content except in the case (possibly) of defamatory posts which they fail to remove after being notified. There was litigation on this very point last year, which one of the ISPs won.

I believe there was a case a couple of years ago involving (i think) Sheffield Wednesday F C and some disparaging postings on a forum. From memory SWFC won the case against the forum administrator.

Consequently, I am not surprised the thread has been pulled. Hopefully it can be tidied up and reinstated.

I think it is pretty risky posting someone else's personal details on an internet forum. FWIW anyone can access the voters roll to look for an address by using 192.com

The thing that has alarmed me is the publishing of the details of the Gentleman in Fortingall, who has committed no offence, now if that was me, I would be deeply concerned.

I don't think there is ever cause for publishing personal details on a public forum.

If you believe someone is guilty of something and you have their details, then you should contact them or the respective authorities to deal with it.

If someone does post personal details I'd like CC members to report it please.

Thanks,
Shaun

Sorry, forgot to add that the thread will be back in place shortly; albeit minus a few little bits. ;)

All of the details which I posted came from News releases, it is all in the public domain anyway...

There were some other posts, but for obvious reasons it wouldn't be appropriate to go into it. Anyway, the thread is returned...

True, but those details in a Cycling Forum have a different context, and whilst any named person can take legal action against a newspaper or news agency (who have good legal resources and the cash to argue) - I've got about six quid in the bank so I can't afford it.

Cheers,
Shaun
