Should only happen if your new to cycling.. after a few weeks riding your arse will get used to being on a saddle.

if it's.hurting after.only .couple.miles , maybe it's.not the saddle for you?

Make sure it's either level or v slightly nose-down

If looking for another, bear in mind padded or gel saddles are almost universally regarded as A Bad Thing despite seeming sensible to the uninitiated.

I like Brooks leather saddles (team pro or b17) but doesn't suit everyone

cycle shorts - though helpful, are not a substitute for a good saddle. And hardly vital for a couple of miles anyway

Wow! You must have an awesome living room to be able to cycle that far indoors.

Padded shorts and get outside. The scenery moves and it will be so much nicer.

I'm riding indoors at work, currently doing 7 days a week to try and accumulate some cash back after long term unemployment.
Also riding inside is helping with balance and handling etc.
Managing 2 or 3 miles a day at the mo, probably a warm up for you guys :-)

Won't take you long before you are into double figures - two weeks for me and I'm doing 11 miles :-) itching to ride again but 12 hour shifts today and tomorrow rule that out.

Also - I wear swimming shorts and boxers. Arse was awfully sore to start with but getting better. I'm choosing to persevere

Good luck.

are there any exercises you can do to warm up the muscles that haven't been used for years when you start biking?

Riding the bike is warming up...well for me the first 10 miles , the next 10 are much more comfortable and my legs are warmed up.

But in general good exercise like stretching and lifting the leg up and opening to the side like the footballers do is good .
You could always look on youtube as theres lots of good advice.. I like gcn vids
