My new bike

I am new to this site and new to the art of building and could use any experience and opinion that you wish to offer.

This years distraction from drinking and smoking is a shed built, light weight hard tail, for trail, marathon and local hooning in the surrounding bad lands.

I have taken the plunge and ordered an On One 456 carbon frame, and, on the good advice of Cubist bagged a bargain Fox float 32 RL fork. At the price quoted from chain reaction I can change the fork if it is not upto the task and sell for a small loss.

My intention is to flood the bike with wonderful hope components and make up the difference with XT bits.

This less than scientific approach to design and build is based purely on my limited knowledge and attraction to shiney metal. There is obvious scope for major blunder and if you feel that you can offer more sound advice then please, fill your boots....

Advice welcome on drive train, wheels and brakes.

Thank you in advance.. Silver.....

Im completely new to MTB myself but have found everyone here a huge help in getting started. Of course once I got involved the weather changed.

Im not qualified to help much but from what I have read you definitely need wheels and brakes!!

Take care and enjoy,

Mike

Lesson number 1. Read the description.

The Fox fork came with a 1.5" steerer the On One frame requires a taper. The Fox illustration showed a taper and my enthusiasm did the rest.

Glad to say Chain Reaction took the fork back with no problems at all and I now return to the wonderful world of scouring the markets.

It is great fun and keeps me away from the TV.
