.....he lives atop one of the steepest hills in Sheffield

Parcelforce can't deliver!!!! They'll deliver eventually when the roads are passable.

What are the roads like in Sheffield now? I'm heading home to Rotherham tomorrow for a week and wondering if it's worth packing the bike

Main routes are clear at present [bit of a thaw going on]. Will probably freeze over again Sunday night according to forecast.

Been off bike all week; but will be getting mountain bike out next week for commuting.

If he had some winter tyres he could easily ride to the sorting office and collect his parcel.

Not bad...main roads are wet and slushy, side roads are rideable on an MTB (slushy topping on compact snow and ice) with care

ST, don't laugh that's happened to me last year........ heh heh........ I went and got mine........

Got to work 1st day back after Xmas - MONDAY..........(ended up driving in as ice everywhere) saw forecasts - 2 weeks of major ice.............. right then....Wiggled ice tyres, showed 10 in stock at about 10.00am............... thought about it, went back an hour later...........2 in stock...........OMG........... got keyboard pressing real fast and got last two Schwalbe Snow studs..........phew......................

TUESDAY.................flippin 6-8 inches everywhere.............oh sh1t.................. jumped on MTB (normal trail tyres) and it was fine going through soft snow - just kept out of car tracks...... even got sent home early, so rode home the long way.............had a blast.........

WEDNESDAY - work shut............ Right.............. checked tracking - stuck at city link. I then DROVE up to the local city link depot (about 6 miles away) on off chance at tea time to see if the tyres were there.......... dodgy drive, but you know a typical front wheel drive saloon is OK on icy snow...........

Poor lady was rushed off feet, she was in and out of vans looking for some....................took ages.......... found them..........WHOOOO.......

The rest was HISTORY...............
