Is today. I watched (in the rain) as the riders passed through a local town. They needed to make a left turn at an intersection and the road markings and rain made it a turn to make with great care. Bambi on ice stuff. I was reminded of Sir Brad's descending
None-the-less, it re-inspired me. I've ridden this sportive 3 times in the last 5 years; twice the shorter distance, once the full 160km course. I was well well off the pace (it is a national trophy event after all) but enjoyed it and was pleased with my effort at the time.
As I watched the riders, I couldn't help but feel a tingle - a slight envy even - despite the rain. I've ridden such events in the past for fun. I simply like the buzz of taking part. I'm not competitive in the least, nor naturally motivated to be fast, but it did cross my mind to re-focus my riding, to set myself the objective to ride such events more seriously. I've been questioning the 'why' of my distance riding for the last few years - perhaps a change of focus would do me good.
