Ladies 'step through' 53 cm Batavus.

27" High Pressure Weinnman rims! on Maillard Normandy hubs!!!

5 speed !!!!!!!

44T ring and 14-16-18-21-24 screw-on.

Should I spend another tenner and get a 14-16-20-24-28 ?????

That would put the total spend up to £25. Is it worth it.....B)

Nope...

That's a long frame. All the turning power of an oil tanker?

As for the gearing, well, I am no quicker now with 20speed gears than I was with 5 or 10, TBH.

Whatever happened to Maillard hubs?

It rides fine.

Went for a spring sunshine evening tootle last night and ended up at a chippy about eight miles away.

Gearing IS a bit high, but they'd be OK in Amsterdam.

The story behind this is :-

I was on a sick day - with a touch of gut-rot, and was sitting at my PC when I heared the 'Rag man's trumpet'. I looked out of the window and there was a 'basket truck' with this bike on the back.

I took a better look and then went out to have a closer look.

I spun both wheels - fairly true.
I looked at the chromework - still good.

I asked "How much for the bike?"
"I can get ten quid for it" replied the man.
"Fifteen?" I prompted.
"Done" he replied and lifted the bike off the truck.

The deal was done.

The tubes inflated, and they are still up this morning. The tyres are like new - 27" x 1 1/8...
I removed all the extras - bell ( broken ), pump clips, lamp brackets and lock.

Mudguards are hand-painted. Who cares for fifteen quid.

Brakes are quite, nay, very effective - Weinnman.

Bottle dynamo special fitment on front fork. Cabling goes through frame and GUESS WHAT ? replaced rear bulb and they worked !!!

I will keep this bike for the Solihull Cycling Club "Hobo" ride in November, and then think about getting my money back.
