...would be holed up in a remote Scottish bothy with a bottle of malt, a pile of dry firewood and a couple of good companions, a pair of touring skis or a mountain bike parked in the porch and none of this ghastly bonhomie, awful music and fattening food.

But that's just me.

We'll go in the one car, eh, since we're coming from the same place. Yours or mine?

I'm already envious of my BIL who's split with his missis (an awful woman-lots of you might "know" her) and spends every Christmas day climbing a mountain somewhere or other.

I echo the bit about the real fire - perfect for the season. We had open fires when I was a lad and I really miss them at Christmas. Some of my best memories are of Christmasses with roaring, crackling log fires. So much so, I've been looking for a good free log fire screensaver to use on my pc - how sad is that!? ;)

we have a real fireplace and we use it a lot. We get the logs from the wood bloke place in norsey woods . I designed the firplace myself when we moved in. This year we havent used it as it's still pretty warm, but i may just put it on an dopen all the windows just for the heck of it.
