I'm not normally in this section of CC (for those who don't know me, I am a regular in commute).
However, now I have my new road bike and with my crazy decision to do the 100 mile Trossachs Ton in June, I decided I needed to get some miles in the legs.
My complete history of cycling since I was about 17 (now 35!) is nearly 4 years commuting 10 miles a day, 1 x Pedal for Scotland ride (55 miles + extra 10), 1 x killer ride from Stirling (Fintry etc) of 50 miles (it was very windy!) and a recent 20 miler (with stops) around Linlithgow. All but the Linlithgow ride was on a beast of a hybrid.
So today I set out on this loop (it was a little longer at 19.7 to get me to and from my house). I should point out that it has more hills on it than bikely claims as the elevation map doesn't work over the Erskine bridge or through the Clyde Tunnel.
On my commute I average about 15 mph, so I though anything approching that would be great. Imagine my surprise when my computer told me I had managed 17.4mph!
Yeah, yeah I know that is probably nothing great over 20 miles with little wind and no great hills. However, I was very pleased for a first attempt.
The ride itself was really enjoyable. In fact I found I was enjoying it more as time went on, and I felt I had more power in my legs as I reached the end.
I think I am realy getting hooked on this road cycling thing!
Oh and a few roadies gave me a wave... I've made it!
