My first road bike project

Hi!

Thought I'd share my latest and first bike project! I bought a Viscount Rambler ladies road bike from the Friday Ad for £30 a few months ago. It lived in my garage for a good few months before I got round to taking it all apart to clean it up and give it a new coat of paint.

I didn't get photographs of all the stages but you'll get the idea!

Let me know what you think! I want to do more now!

Before I took it apart

All apart, hanging up and primer'd

Front end sprayed red, ready for the star design.

White sprayed over the top and the stickers taken off.

It gradually got put back together...

Back on two wheels!

Brake outer cable finally arrived so I could start putting them back together!

Waiting on bar tape!

Bar tape on!

Now I'm just waiting on more outer cable so I can put the gears back together! But it is ridable now, I know what I'm doing today!

Looks like you've given it a new leash of life. Nice work. Although I would have just went with plain red bar tape.

I ordered plain red bar tape but the silly bugger on eBay sent me the wrong one! I couldn't wait to get out on it so I put it on anyway. After some friends saying the same thing I reckon red or white bar tape will be on order by Monday morning... Haha

A friend knows someone who does sand blasting so got it done there!

Fantastic job! Much braver than my first project of turning a beaten up 80's Peugeot into a fixed wheel bike...

My latest project was turning this into this although I did get a professional to do the spray job for me as my previous rattle can efforts have never lasted that well.

Haha, yeah I'm not sure I'd use rattle cans again! A lot of effort - but worth the experience!

Awesome job. Googled 'what jobs to start with for project bike' and found this post. Apart from stripping and respraying the frame, which I'll do at a later date, I'm gonna be upgrading my teenage racer which has seen better days.

Upgrading wheelset, freewheel, and tyres.

Replacing gear and brake cables, saddle, pedals, possibly brakes. Possible upgrading.

Will be cleaning derailleurs and crankset. Upgrade at later date.

Won't be stripping and repainting until warmer months. Hopefully it will look a little like this:
