Well, I pick up my new bike from a bike shop in London Bridge and I have to take it home which is 14 miles away. I thought of a few ways of getting the bike home but I have decided to go for it and cycle it home.

I have planned a route with consists mostly of cycle paths from Paddington to home.

I have got my cycle helmet and all other safety equiptment.

Any tips/stories that can help me on my journey into the unknown?

Wish me luck!

Make sure you have a spare tube and tools etc. You wont be immune from the unspeakable on your first ride.

Then enjoy.

Didnt get my bike today. Went to the shop to collect it, but they did not install the muguards, pump, speedo etc! Also, London Bridge was really busy so I will try again tomorrow.

Well, when I went to collect the bike, they gave me a bag with all the stuff in it. I said I was surprised it was not installed before I took it away. They did me a favour as I had just done a 10 hour shift at work.

I took the bike home and it was one big adventure! I got home ok, part cycling and part walking as I did not have the confidence to handle roundabouts and really heavy traffic. I have to admit I did take some pleasure in cycling past the stationary traffic. Cant wait for another ride tomorrow!

Be wary of lorries especially when cycling in cities. Follow the advice given by The Metropolitan Police in the following video below.

Well done northolthornet

Ive just started back cycling after a break. Getting used to traffic takes time but after a while it will become second nature.
