Finally managed it....my first proper ride out on the Viking since owning it,had a few uncomfortable moments.Managed a 23 mile ride a good few hills and some lovely scenery, however it was spoilt by an uncomfortable ride, heres my probs, firstly was the pins and needles on the soles of my feet, that was my fault for riding my cycling shoes with the cleats in and not having spd pedals, secondle was a tingling between my legs, saddle position?next up was the muscles just above my knees, they took a hammering, just not used to it,then when i'm on the drops i had to crane my neck to look straight ahead.
So still a lot of work and learning to accomplish a more enjoyable ride but at least i got out for a ride today.I was so longing for the comfort of my mountain bike

Trial and error on the setup dude and also the comfort will self-materialise.

The one thing that's surprised me most is I get pins n neeedles with the handlebar angled towards me and up, but total comfort with it angled forward n down, seems my arms prefer to be extended a bit.

It takes a while to get used to a new bike I've just got a drop barred carrera vanquish after riding a hybrid and MTB for years. Using my old saddle (charge spoon decent saddle for £25) pedals and shoes so no problems there. bars are a bit of a stretch but the more I ride it the more comfortable it becomes flipping the stem over and putting a couple of spacers under it brought the bars up and a bit closer made a big difference to the comfort level.

Cheers for the comments,i've got a 130mm stem wheeling its way to me this week which also has a slight raise too,i've pushed the saddle back to middle now where it should be,already have spacers fitted as standard otherwise i would certainly fit them,it does feel as if the bars are too low, hopefully the stem will sort that.

My guess is that the 'tingling' is down to the angle of the saddle, and knee pain down to saddle height. So I'd try moving the nose of the saddle down a touch, and raising the saddle height. As the others say, once you've got the setup roughly right, it's a case of trial and error, making small changes and getting some miles in, and it takes a while to get used to riding on drops.

Well done on getting your first ride in, it sounds like you've got some bike fit issues. Theres some interesting stuff on here

Cool, sounds like a good route. Did it take you round the back of the Cardington sheds through Cardington? I may have to borrow your route and turn it into my own.

Be my guest mate
The route goes past the front of the hangers,it can be adapted easily enough to go behind them but its not that close to be honest, let me know if you need a hand with your route, always happy to help where i can

I commute the Cardington (behind the hangers)/Coople/Northhill way. Can get some good rides around here.
Some nice routes further down around Haynes, Clophill, Shillington areas as well.
