since i changed from a road bike to hybrid with wider tyres i have now found the confidence to go out in rain sounds daft but could never visualise myself cornering on 22mm thick tyres so i would have previosly canceled todays ride but with the tachyon 4 i was happy to go out and feel great drenched but great 19.9 miles thought it was further but really enjoyed it mud guards my next purchase and i finally beat a segmont personal best on strava its on the last bit home so perhaps the call of hot bath spurred me on and i now know that rain is not an issue its so much better to get wet than use turbo

id say you had the wrong tyres on the roadie. Slick and narrow tyres are much better in the wet as they cut through the surface water better.

just a confidence thing i think but i am happy with what i have i found have to work harder to keep rolling speed going but i prefer the hybrid

Yep, the thinner the better for cutting thru water. I guess the smaller foot print means more pressure per square inch. Therefore it pushes the water away better. I sure know my jeep with fat tyres is a git in the rain, where as the Land rover with narrow tyres is much more surefooted.

I love riding in the rain. A decent jacket, gloves and overshoes.

A dark wet night like tonight is great or a ride

Touch wood, I've never had a 23 or 22mm tyre slide out on me in the wet but I have with 25, 28 and 37mm. It probably has more to do with the compound of the tyres and bike control than width. If you feel more confident and thus your bike control is better its a good thing Bill even if physics say otherwise

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Wimped out last night , i took the bin up the drive in a rain coat and i was wet through after a couple of minutes due to the the amount of rain and driving wind.
Glad i did as my route was strewn with mahoosive puddles that were all the way across the road along with debris blown off trees etc .
Normally i just go for it but i did not fancy doing a full night shift after getting soaked through, risking falling off on wet leaves, fairy visit from the debris, inattentive drivers driving to fast for the conditions and i have a right stinking man flu atm

Yep, sounds like you made the right decision. weathers a bit of a bitch at the moment :cursing:

In the wet or snow wider tyres tend to turn any wheeled vehicle into a sled, that will go pretty much where it decides!
Wet leaves make it all a lot more treacherous..
