Hello

Today i changed my tyres on my road bike " Michelin Pro 3 Race " , the front one went on fine but it was a bit of a struggle getting it on though .

But for some reason i caused a puncture on the rear tyre and had to put a new one in  think this must of happened when i put the tyre on with the leavers ?

Is there any special way of putting inner tubes in or a better way ?

Thanks
Carl

The way I do it is to be one edge of the tyre over the rim, then inflate the inner tube just a wee bit - enough so it makes a circle shape, but a very squishy circle. Start with the valve and put that through the hole and make sure it's seated correctly, then put the rest of the inner tube round inside the wheel rim. You should now have your inner tube and one side of the tyre in the correct place.
Start again by the valve and push the other side of the tyre into the rim, work round either side away from the valve. You will end up with a very tight bit on the opposite side to the valve - sometimes you can put this over with just your thumbs and a bit of pressure, but when i did this last i used tyre levers to pop the last bit of the tyre over the rim. Seemed to work ok!

When you get to that last tight bit it's possible to do it without levers on almost any combination, though some people swear levers are fine if you use them right. The trick is to get the opposite side of the tyre down into the middle of the rim as much as possible. You can do this and then tie a strap/cable tie, then the same either side. Personally I find that I can do it by holding that against my legs, pushig the middle in at the sides, as my hands slide round and, by the time I reach that last stubborn bit there should be enough slack for it to pop over by thumb alone.

If that doesn't work for you there's also a really good lever that pulls the tyre up and over, but it's kind of bulky for an on bike tool.

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
+1 above methods - then once you have the tyre on go right round again pushing the beads towards the centre of the rim and checking that the tube is not trapped anywhere underneath the beads before inflating.

There are a couple of good videos on youtube. (I liked the one by innertubesdirect (I think) the best.)

I put two "puncture proof" tyres on my road bike last night, and to be honest I was expecting them to be real sods.

I didn't use levers to put them on, and to my surprise they weren't too bad. Front took about 10 minutes to get on, back about 6 or 7 minutes. Last time, to put "ordinary" tyres on, took about 30 minutes for one!
