My first near major accident...

Bit morbid but yesteday i had my very first close call with an incompetent driver. I was cycling up a quietish countriy lane preparing to turn right, i was aware there was a car coming up behind me, i indicated to turn right, checked over my shoulder and begain moving towards the middle of the road, to my amazement this driver decided he wanted to now overtake me clipping my handle bars with his mirror, fortunatly i didnt fall off, but a little shook up.

Good to hear you managed not to fall off. Sounds like another one of those drivers who think cyclists are nothing more than a hindrance that costs them a few seconds of their journey....

Sorry to hear about this. No matter how experienced you are, there are always idiots that will catch you out. with any luck, it's cracked their mirror and that will cost them to put it right.

I've not had the daft overtake when indicating Right for a while. I can remember the last time though, it was on Whitehouse Road. At the bottom of the hill there a sharp right turn to traffic dead end but an often used cycle route. As usual I was cruising down in the primary at about 20mph gradually moving to a 3/4 position. But its a very sharp right turn and I have to scrub speed and usually move to the right a few feet to let other folk undertake, just as I started to, I did the safety check again and I'm glad I did; a muppet was overtaking. When I'm stopped /stopping its very easy as you can judge from the car in this view its very easy to undertake but no they had to overtake

This was originally in Rider's Tales which was the wrong forum for this type of thread, it seems to have now been moved to General Cycling which seems reasonable.
