So I seemed to have managed the ice quite well on my way in to work and back today - until I approached the station, turned off the cycle path onto a suburban street and suddenly noticed how shiny the surface was and KERBLAM! Fell off my bike sideways and hit my (helmeted) head hard on the icy tarmac, a shot of pain going across my neck with the impact.

My neck is still quite sore, and if I lie down, getting up is quite hard work - like my neck has become rather weak. I take it I have given myself some form of whiplash type injury? Any tips on how to deal with it, and how to expect it to develop? I have a serious worry I'll be out of action tomorrow morning.

get it checked out just to be on the safe side , a small injury could develop into more serious stuff .

you will know your own body, but i would suggest you go and get checked over.

five days in hospital after a head knock which I disregarded taught me a lesson.

+ 1, You'll know tomorrow morning how bad it is - after a nights sleep / rest. Get to A+E tonight if you can.

Good luck, hope it's not that serious.

Cheers guys, it appears casualty were too busy to see me, but a nurse suggested sleeping on it - lack of proper pain and side effects such as nausea and dizziness, and the fact I can still move it fine suggest it isn't serious. Just hope it's better by tomorrow rather than all stiffened up!

Too busy to see you.....typical!

Turn up there after a drunk fuelled brawl and they'll treat you no problem!

Hope you're feeling better soon my friend, get a hot water bottle on it (or some kind of heat pad) and if it's not better - get to the hospital and don't leave until they've given you a thorough check up.

If it's no better make a damn nuisance of yourself till they see you. I was told over the phone that I couldn't be treated for a nasty injury to two fingers by the receptionist at my own doctors last year because the district nurse had to deal with and she wasn't in. I walked to the surgery and was told the same at the reception desk till I removed the bandages and bled all over the floor. The practice nurse soon stitched my fingers up.
