Now the warmer weather seems to have arrived I decided to test the legs with a run from Blackness to Cairnpapple in West Lothian - 610m of ascent in 16km. For those that may know the area I went via the Kingscavil "wall" and Beecraigs.
Thoiught I was fuelled up enough with porridge for breakfast and a sponge biccy at the start.......I was wrong!
Everything went fine until after beecraigs hill. Started to feel really weak but decided to press on. Drank some lucozade sport and felt not too bad.
Once I was going up the final drag to cairnpapple though......Total breakdown. No energy, feeling sick, shivery, faint. The whole shebang.
Had to sit down where I was otherwise I would have fallen over. I didn't panic though, cause I knew what this was. It wasn't a heart attack it was the Bonk!
Took small nibbles of malt loaf with some lucozade and within 15 mins felt totally OK. Just shows how important taking on food is even on a short ride if you're using up a lot of energy climbing
