Just found this photo today of me on my first bike. Not sure of the year, but we moved from that house in 1974, when i was 5
The bike was a Raleigh Mayflower which I inherited from Sally who lived next door.
& before anyone comments, i know my fashion sense hasn't improved at all

Soltydog...What a great memory for you, thanks for sharing it with us. Somewhere ther is a picture of me on an old trike with a boot on the back.

Hello,
Great picture.
When my parents died my sister and I ended up with hundreds of pictures and slides. Over a period of a couple of Years we sorted them out and found just one color slide of me aged about 8 on my first bike. I took the slide to the Photo store we used to have locally and ordered a 10"x8" print to put on the wall alongside recent pictures of myself still with a bike (or three).
I am still so upset that what happened was that they lost the slide and no matter what I did via a Solicitor failed to get it found. I ended up with £50 worth of 'Free' printing which was useless as they closed shortly afterwards.
I wish I had that picture. You must hang on to yours.
My picture was taken in the 1950's.
John.

I had one like that as well!!

Red frame with a pale blue metal boot. The things I used to carry around in that.:headshake:

Learnt to ride on two wheels by going round corners far too fast and lifting the inside wheel - much to my Mothers horror

Happy days.

Gary.

Nice one!

It wasn't by any means my first bike, but the one on the front page of my website was my first real bicycle -- a Sun.

I also had a trike with a boot. It was red, if I recall.

Er, I had one like that as well!! ;)

My Dad once "liberated" some bricks from somewhere and got me to be his accomplice repeatedly filling the boot and getting me to cart them home - my Mum went ballistic when she found out

I had a 3 wheeler then a cheapo 2 wheeler that snapped in half, then a Raleigh Strika, Raleigh Arena and a Peugeot racer, I was saving for a Raleigh Record Sprint and my dad came home with a rather ropey looking Peugeot racer from someone at work for me, I was gutted as I was getting near my target for the Sprint.

Anyway, we stripped it, sprayed it, bought some choice bits to improve it, spent hours polishing the rather nice alloy wheels it had (unusual in the eighties) and we got some new Peugeot decals for it, it looked stunning in metallic blue with the graphics, Iscaselle Turbo saddle etc.

Next bike was one kid dumping his bike for the insurance, wrecked but frame intact, 80's Raleigh Aero frame, spily little get had got the gears caught in the back wheel and a puncture so threw it in some bushes, I claimed salvage rights and got it painted at Rick Greens for £60 in a gorgoeus Metalic deep red, some more bling back on it, no transfers this time.

Those trikes must have been the thing to be seen on!, i remember getting one from "jeremy" across the road when he graduated to 2 wheels.Mine was red with pale blue box and white plastic saddle circa 69/70

This is very confusing isn't it?

Two threads about "My first bike", one in Gallery and one in Commuting.
Notice that this thread started last November.

Perhaps I should sneakily mention that I still have my first bike.:smile:
