A computer program for people building up a bike that allows them to put it together virtualy to see what it would look like. It would also be able to tell you if certain parts were compatible with others that you were trying to use. Obviously there would be the facility to change the colours and designs that you might want to adorn the bike with. The program would sort it all out and put the bike together to give you a good idea about what it would look like. You would be able to enter your own statistics like height and weight and arm and leg measurements so that the bike could be examined for fit.
I also thought that if one had say a frame that they wanted to build on then it coud be taken to a booth at a bikeshop where they would have a very similar set up to the type of thing they have now in some clothes shops to scan your body. The bike frame could be scanned and certain details given to the asembly about threads and such so that the program could then alow one to build around the new frame.
I'm virtualy computer illiterate but from what I have seen being done I think the tecnology to create a system like this has been around for a while and at a level of sophistication that could do this job very well. One would be able to fly in to bits of the build and see exactly how it would look and fit together and the database could be choc full with info about the various parts and possible alternatives, again ensuring compatibility that is not always obvious to non experts (well me anyway).
So, there is my fantastic idea, or idea at least. Does anyone know if anything like this already exists because I'd love to go and play with it. As I see it the biggest stumbling block would be getting all the various manufacturers to cooperate and and make their parts available for use in the database.
