Started cycling in May 09 and came off for the 1st time today

The bike's fine, had to re-centre the front wheel and adjust the drops but no other problems. The wheels just went from under me when I hit a patch of mud. I've had a couple of close calls in the wet before and wonder if the tyres are a bit dodgy in those conditions but have nothing to compare, they are Michelin Dynamics.

Other than a big bruise/graze on my upper thigh (the left one and the bike landed cassette side up
smilie_thumbsup.gif
), a tear in the top layer of my Aldi longs and a minor knock to my pride an confidence I'm fine.

If it has taken you best part of a year then you haven't been trying hard enough

Glad you and your bike are OK though, now just put it behind you and carry on enjoying your cycling.

Sorry to hear that Nic, where did that happen?

The lanes are full of mud and the farmers have been hedgecutting!

Glad your ok jeltz - your pride will heal.

Its hard to blame tyres for an "off" in extreme conditions - I used to buy "race spec" road tyres for my motorbike. It didn't stop me coming off on diesel/gravel/black ice/mud and having a couple of nears in the wet. I just had to learn to drive according to weather/road surface conditions and back off the gas and reduce lean into corners(a little).

It was out near Chew Valley Lake and I know what you mean about the hedge cutting, so many hedges have been cut its like there's some kind of grant for it!!!

Yes absolutely, its entirely possible/likely I'd have come off whatever but because they are the ones that came with the bike I have no experience of any other tyres and was wondering if anyone could give me a view on them.

Yeah, sorry!

I was listening to the football and didn't finish my post properly. My point was that it doesn't matter how much you spend - sometimes you'll come off, regardless. Not a dig or snipe.

I've got Michelin City's on my MTB/Roadbike,Hybrid and I bought them for puncture protection wet weather riding(and cause they were cheap, £10 each). They've proved a real bargain - covered nearly 2000 miles on them no probs or real signs of wear. Never had Dynamics but Michelin tend to make good tyres so they shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks, I didn't take it as a dig, just thought I'd not explained myself as well as I could:smile:

Had my first off last week too, just a couple of scuffs on the handlebars, skewer, pedal and brake lever - frame untouched. Me? bit of road rash on thigh and knee See http://www.starperformance.co.uk/oops/ Can't blame the tyres as I hit snow/slush/ice. I did have Michelin Dynamics on the bike when I got it but was never confident with them, Vittoria Rubino Pro I find much better in the wet but still are no use in those conditions.

Ouch the knee looks painful, but my thigh bruise is bigger

Thanks for the mention of the tyres though.

Not bad at all, was more annoyed I ripped my Bib Longs and damaged my nice new carbon bars (just a light scuff and luckily I hadn't taped them yet as still finalising my bike fit to get comfy for longer hours in the saddle)
I was also straight back on the bike and led a couple of mates who had stopped back to the main riding group
